Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)
What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
The Brazilian Butt Lift, also called a BBL, is a specialized fat transfer procedure that augments the size and shape of the buttocks without using implants. Excess fat is removed from the hips, abdomen, lower back, or thighs with liposuction, and a portion of this fat is then strategically injected into the buttocks.
Am I a Good Candidate for Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery
A Brazilian Butt Lift can be a great option to improve the shape and size of the buttocks; however, certain patients are better suited for the procedure, and it is important to have realistic expectations about the surgery, recovery, and results. In general, you are likely a good candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift if you agree with the following:
- You want a buttock augmentation without implants
- You have adequate fat stored in other areas to harvest for injection into the buttocks
- You are willing and able to avoid sitting directly on your buttocks for several weeks
How to Prepare for Brazilian Butt Lift
Preparing for a Brazilian Butt Lift is an essential step in ensuring a smooth procedure and recovery. Before fat grafting, you will meet with our board-certified brazilian butt lift surgeon for a consultation to discuss your goals, review your medical history, and determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure.
To optimize your results and reduce the risk of complications, it’s important to maintain a stable weight, avoid smoking and alcohol for at least four weeks, and focus on healthy eating habits leading up to surgery. Following these guidelines will help ensure a safe surgery and optimal results.
The Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure
A Brazilian Butt Lift involves three basic steps:
- Fat tissue is removed from the hips, lower back, thighs, abdomen, and/or other areas with liposuction
- The extracted fat cells are purified and prepared for transfer
- One of our cosmetic surgeons injects fat into specific points on the buttocks to increase volume and improve shape
Recovery After Brazilian Butt Lift
Since the procedure involves fat transfer, it is essential to follow post-operative instructions carefully to ensure the newly transferred fat survives. Patients must avoid sitting or lying directly on their buttocks for at least two weeks to prevent pressure on the fat cells. Wearing a compression garment as instructed by your surgeon will help reduce swelling and support healing.
Some swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort are normal and will gradually subside within a few weeks. Most patients can resume light activities within two weeks, but strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for at least four to six weeks. While some of the transferred fat will naturally be reabsorbed by the body, maintaining a stable weight and following a healthy lifestyle can help preserve your long-term results.
